The Garden of Eden

Biblical Basis • Genesis 1:26-29; 2:4-15
In the first chapter of the Bible, we hear how God created the heavens and the earth by the power of his Word. As the crown of his Creation, God made humankind in his own image. He gave them a garden in which to live and work as his stewards.

Lesson Prayer
Lord of all creation, you are the source of all good gifts and you graciously sustain the created order. Thank you for tasking us with caring for the world you love. May we be good stewards of the earth and of all that you have so generously given us. We ask this through Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord. Amen.

Creative Idea for the Week
Image of God
What does the author of Genesis mean when he says that humans were created in the image of God? (Genesis 1:26-27) What he seems to be getting at is that human beings are different than other animals, that we were created to watch over and steward the earth, caring for all that God had made. This puts humanity in a unique relationship with the Creator. We can talk, think, solve problems, walk on two feet, and create things and ideas. Humanity also has a little bit of control over the creation - not like God of course - but some measure.
Gather some photos (images) of fathers and sons, and mothers and daughters who have a strong resemblance to one another. Talk together about how their "images" look alike. Might this be how humans were created to look like our heavenly Father in some ways?
