Good King Wenceslas

Sunday School Christmas Program

Written by the Rev. Steven E. King

"Good King Wenceslas" is a Sunday School Christmas program featuring familiar Songs and Scripture, telling the story of the 10th century Christian King of Bohemia, based on the carol of the same name. The story emphasizes the theme of caring for the poor and needy, taught by Jesus.

This traditional program can easily be performed in the chancel on a Sunday morning or as an evening event leading up to Christmas. It allows for children to lead in music and recitation, but also features participation by the gathered congregation and adult leaders. No special staging is needed; the program is intentionally simple and “generic”—allowing for modifications and additions according to local custom.
